I have never written anything personal on the subject of hijab because it seems like an overdone issue. Sometimes I think so much focus is put on this one little aspect of being a Muslim woman, to the detriment of more important Islamic knowledge and practice. Because the headscarf is such a visual symbol of the Muslim woman, many non-Muslims are the ones who make a large issue Of it, spout ill-informed opinions, or ash questions in an attempt to understand. This has been answered to by so many Muslim women, and even Muslim men, that I did not feel, the need to throw my opinion or feelings out into the fray. Lately I find I am being asked many questions, even by other Muslim women who choose not to wear hijab, and by non-Muslims who know other Muslim women who choose not to wear hijab. How Muslims Deal with Non-Muslims
It is a truism that it is illogical to judge a religion by the crimes committed in the name of this religion when the perpetrators of these crimes deviate from the principles and values of the religion they claim to follow. The contrary would definitely bring about utter confusion from the very start as to whether we are speaking of religion and the true followers of religion or a criminal gang that acts under the cover of religion. The word “Islamic” is being thrown around by everyone, especially in the media. If we apply the same rule, the word “Christian” and ‘Jewish” can be attached to the terrorist acts that were and are committed by some Christian and Jewish groups. Read the rest of this entry »
