The media presents me as a naive, besotted 21 year-old who has made a hasty decision without really considering the consequences thus effectively condemning herself to a life of interminable subservience, misery and isolation. Although I must confess I have rather enjoyed the various depictions of a veiled and miserable “Haiqa Khan” incarcerated in chains, the reality is somewhat different. Divorce In Islam
Prophet Muhammad (peace be on him) has said that of all things permitted, divorce is the most hateful in the sight of Allah. Nonetheless, the provision for divorce is there after due deliberation and serious thought as prescribed in the Qur’an. A recent report shows that almost half of the marriages end in divorce. Reasons for this high incidence of divorce vary from lack of understanding and temperamental incompatibility between the couples, to lack of respect towards each other’s needs and sensitivities.
